Dusty Baker is no longer manager of the Cincinnati Reds, according to multiple media reports.
It is not clear if Baker was fired or resigned. The Reds are expected to announce his replacement Friday. He has one year left on his contract.
The Reds finished 90-72 this year and placed third in the National League Central. Their season ended Tuesday when they lost the NL wild-card game 6-2 to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Baker managed the Reds to the postseason three of the last four years, but failed to advance each time.
In 2008, Baker took over as manager of the Reds and guided them to the NL Central title in 2010. However, they were swept by the Philadelphia Phillies, who went on to win the World Series. He is one of six managers to win division championships with three different teams. The others are Billy Martin, Joe Torre, Tony La Russa, Lou Piniella and Davey Johnson.
Cincinnati won the division again in 2012, but Baker missed the celebration because he was hospitalized with an irregular heartbeat and a mini-stroke. He missed 11 games after he was admitted to a Chicago hospital during a road trip.
The Reds lost to the San Francisco Giants in the NL Division Series in five games, despite taking a 2-0 lead. The Giants went on to win the World Series.
Baker, 64, has 20 years of managerial experience in the major leagues, including stints with the Giants (1993-2002), Chicago Cubs (2003-06) and Reds (2008-13). He has five division championships and has won NL Manager of the Year three times. He also managed the Giants to the 2002 World Series, losing to the Anaheim Angels in six games.
