Defensive lineman Drake Nevis signed with the Dallas Cowboys, who waived backup defensive tackle Jerome Long.
Nevis, a third-round pick in 2011 of the Indianapolis Colts, was released by the San Diego Chargers last week.
Nevis is a pass-rushing defensive tackle and lacked the bulk and height to consistently hold up as a 3-4 defensive end with the Colts and Chargers.
In the Cowboys’ 4-3 scheme, he’ll fit the typical “three-technique” mold with good initial quickness and burst off the line of scrimmage.
Jerome Long was waived by the Cowboys last month and then re-signed on Sept. 7. He also spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars.
