Tennessee coach Butch Jones said Monday that quarterback Nate Peterman is out at least four weeks after having surgery on his right hand.
Peterman was injured during Saturday’s 31-17 loss to Florida.
Making his first collegiate start, Peterman was replaced late in the second quarter after he was 4-of-11 passing for 5 yards with two interceptions and a fumble.
Jones said Peterman was not replaced by Justin Worley because of the injury.
Jones named Worley the starter for the time being. He said a more definitive timetable for Peterman’s return will be determined later this week.
Freshmen Riley Ferguson and Joshua Dobbs are listed behind Worley on the team’s depth chart for this Saturday’s game against South Alabama.
