The New York Yankees announced Monday that left-hander CC Sabathia is out for the rest of the season with a Grade 2 hamstring strain.

Sabathia was injured during Friday’s start against the San Francisco Giants. He pitched seven innings in the win.

The injury requires about eight weeks of recovery time. Sabathia, 33, was 14-13 with a 4.78 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 175 strikeouts in 211 innings.

The Yankees are still fighting for a playoff spot as they are four games out of the second wild card spot in the American League heading into the final week of the regular season.
