Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins cleared waivers but has told the team he is not interested in waiving his no-trade clause, according to CBSSports.com.
Veteran teammate Michael Young also cleared waivers, according to Foxsports.com. However, he is reportedly open to being traded to the Texas Rangers, New York Yankees or Boston Red Sox.
The St. Louis Cardinals were reportedly interested in acquiring Rollins at the July 31 non-waiver deadline, but no deal was made.
Rollins has said he wants to remain in Philadelphia so he can move up the team’s all-time career lists. He is second with 2,135 hits, just 99 behind Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt. He is also second in at-bats, second in stolen bases and third in runs.
“There are still a couple things I would like to be No. 1 on the lists in this organization, so until those things are done, I’m not going anywhere,” Rollins said.
Rollins is making $11 million this year and in 2014, and has a vesting option for 2015 if he makes 600 plate appearances in ’14 or 1,100 in 2013-14 combined.
He is batting .255 with five home runs, 32 RBI and 15 stolen bases this year.
Young is not likely to be traded because he is dealing with a hamstring injury. The Phillies previously rejected an offer by the Yankees to pay the approximately $5 million left on his contract in exchange for a minor league pitching prospect.
