Former Texas Longhorns backup quarterback Connor Brewer is transferring to Arizona, he announced Monday night on Twitter.

“I have committed to the University of Arizona! So excited to play for Coach [Rich] Rodriguez! More great things to come for this program soon,” he wrote.

Brewer was a high-school star at nearby Chaparral High School, in Scottsdale, leading the team to three straight state titles. He redshirted his freshman season in Texas and will be eligible to play for Arizona in 2014.

“Offensively, it’s a quarterback’s dream to play in their system and chuck the ball around and do everything Coach Rodriguez likes to do,” Brewer told the Arizona Star. “After visiting and seeing the facilities and talking to the coaches, it was a no-brainer to stay close to home.”

With David Ash entrenched for the Longhorns and Tyrone Swoopes impressing, Brewer likely decided it was best to play for another school. He didn’t appear in a game last season. He hopes to enroll this week and could participate in fall camp.
