The Cincinnati Bengals signed Carlos Dunlap to a long-term extension Tuesday, which will keep the defensive end in town through 2018.

Dunlap had one year left on his original four-year rookie deal. The team didn’t announce financial terms, but multiple reports said the total value was $40 million.

“One of our key offseason goals was to continue signing and extending our key players, and the signing of Carlos is another positive step,” head coach Marvin Lewis said in the team’s official statement. “Over his three seasons with us, Carlos has continued to progress and develop. He has demonstrated the ability to be productive as a three-down player, and we are glad to have him committed to be a part of our future.”

In three seasons with the Bengals, Dunlap has 20.0 sacks in 38 games, along with four forced fumbles.
