The Cleveland Indians recalled right-handed pitcher Danny Salazar from Triple-A Columbus to start Thursday’s game and optioned right-hander Preston Guilmet to the Clippers.
Salazar’s start against the Toronto Blue Jays was the major league debut for the former undrafted rookie signed by the Indians in 2006. He struck out Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes to begin Thursday’s game.
Salazar has gone a combined 5-5 with a 3.08 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 17 starts between Double-A Akron and Columbus this season. Salazar had a string of 16 consecutive scoreless innings at the time of his call up.
Guilmet was promoted July 7 and made his major league debut Wednesday, pitching two-thirds of a scoreless inning against the Blue Jays.
