Free agent guard Monta Ellis is in contract talks with the Sacramento Kings, CBS Sports reported Monday.

Ellis became a free agent after opting out of his contract with the Milwaukee Bucks that would have paid him $11 million next season.

Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, a former minority owner with the Golden State Warriors, has reportedly been targeting Ellis.

Ellis, 27, played the first six-plus seasons of his career with the Warriors, who traded him to the Bucks last year for center Andrew Bogut.

The New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets were previously interested in Ellis, but the Knicks instead re-signed J.R. Smith and the Nuggets are close to acquiring Randy Foye in a three-team deal involving the Warriors and Utah Jazz.

The Atlanta Hawks are also reportedly interested in Ellis, but are focusing on trying to get Bucks free agent point guard Brandon Jennings in a sign-and-trade deal. If that goes through, Hawks restricted free agent point guard Jeff Teague would wind up in Milwaukee.

The Kings are reportedly willing to trade Chuck Hayes and Jimmer Fredette to create at least $12 million of cap space to sign Ellis.
