The parents of Denver Broncos running back coach Eric Studesville were killed in an accident on Tuesday afternoon in Texas, the team announced.
Alfonso and Janet Studesville were riding a Honda Goldwing motorcycle when a tow truck pulling a grain trailer traveling east veered into the westbound lane on U.S. Highway 54 and struck them head-on. The couple was thrown into a ditch and pronounced dead at the scene, the Texas Department of Safety said.
Alfonso Studesville was 67 and his wife was 68.
The truck driver, Anthony Buck, was not injured.
“Our most heartfelt condolences go to Eric Studesville and his entire family following the tragic loss of his parents, Al and Jan Studesville,” the Broncos said in a statement. “We were devastated to learn of their passing today. Our thoughts and prayers are with Eric and his family, and our organization will support them however possible during this difficult time.”
Studesville, a 17-year NFL coaching veteran, has spent the past four seasons as the Broncos’ running backs coach. He was Denver’s interim head coach for the final three games of the 2010 season after Josh McDaniels was fired.
The Broncos canceled a coaches’ press conference for Wednesday.
