Brown meets with Cavs, another meeting planned

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert and Mike Brown met Sunday night to discuss the vacant coaching job opening, but Brown was not offered the job, ESPN reported Monday.

General manager Chris Grant was also at the meeting in Detroit.

Gilbert and Brown are scheduled to meet again this week, as early as Monday night or Tuesday.

The Cavaliers also contacted Phil Jackson about the position over the weekend.

Brown formerly coached the Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Cavaliers have struggled since LeBron James left for the Miami Heat three years ago and fired Byron Scott as coach last week. However, they have an All-Star in point guard Kyrie Irving and are well under the salary cap.

Jackson, meanwhile, is reportedly more interested in a front-office job than returning to coaching.
