Atlanta Falcons safety William Moore was charged with simple battery Thursday after he was arrested in Fulton County, Ga., the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
According to the newspaper, Moore was booked into Fulton County Jail, but no further details were available.
The Falcons issued a statement that read, “We are aware of the situation involving William Moore and are in the process of gathering more information. Because this is now a legal matter, the club will have no further comment at this time.”
Moore, 27, and the Falcons agreed to terms on a five-year, $30 million contract in March. According to the Journal-Constitution, $14 million is guaranteed.
Moore had 105 tackles and four interceptions last season and was a Pro Bowl alternate, even though he missed four games with a hamstring injury.
The Falcons’ second-round pick in 2009 out of Missouri, Moore saw little action as a rookie, then started 15, 11 and 12 games the past three seasons. He had a career-high five interceptions in 2010.
