The New York Jets’ trade talks with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers involving cornerback Darrelle Revis have been put on hold, ESPN reported Monday.
The Jets began voluntary workouts and examined Revis, who is rehabbing a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He was examined by Dr. Russell Warren, who performed Revis’ surgery last fall.
New Jets general manager John Itzik also wanted to meet with the star cornerback for the first time.
The Jets will evaluate Revis first before deciding the next course of action, according to ESPN.
Also, backup quarterback Tim Tebow arrived at the team’s facility about 90 minutes early for Monday’s scheduled 8 a.m. team meeting. He has also been mentioned in trade talks.
Wide receiver Santonio Holmes was a no-show. He is still recovering from foot surgery. He is not expected to join the team until later in the spring for workouts.
Revis reportedly wanted to stay in Arizona, where he has been rehabbing the knee since January, but has a $1 million workout bonus. The Jets cut his pay by $3.5 million for this year but he is still guaranteed $7.5 million.
