The Chicago Bears are expected to sign free agent tight end Martellus Bennett on Tuesday if the two sides can agree to contract terms.

Bennett said via Twitter that he would be joining good friend Brandon Marshall.

“I’m proud to say I’ll be joining my brother @bmarshall next season,” Bennett wrote. “No deal done. Just know that’s where I wanna be.”

Bennett parlayed his breakout season with the Giants — 16 starts, 55 receptions for 626 yards and five touchdowns — into strong interest in free agency.

The 26-year-old was a second-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2008, but played sparingly as Jason Witten’s backup.

Chicago’s tight end production was a sore spot for general manager Phil Emery. Kellen Davis started for the Bears last season but was primarily a blocker. He had 19 receptions, but was the intended target on 44 pass plays.

Bennett, at 6-5, 265, has the speed to challenge safeties down the middle of the field and the size to effectively block.
