Former New Orleans Saints defensive lineman Remi Ayodele ripped former teammate Anthony Hargrove after Hargrove told ESPN that Ayodele was the one who said “give me my money” in a video clip of the 2009 NFC championship game.
The NFL claimed during its bounty investigation that is was Hargrove who made the comment after a hit on quarterback Brett Favre.
Hargrove was suspended eight games by the league but it was overturned by arbitrator Paul Tagliabue, the former NFL commissioner. Hargrove sat out the entire season as he was not with a team.
“I lost a whole year of football,” Hargrove said on “Outside the Lines” on Sunday. “I lost a 401K pension. I lost my severance pay. I lost a great deal of myself because of the lack of professionalism here in the NFL,” Hargrove told ESPN. “Just because they say, ‘hey move on,’ we’re supposed to be fine with it. No, I don’t think so. I think we’ve just begun.”
Hargrove said he thinks the NFL singled out the Saints in response to concussion lawsuits filed by former players against the league to show that it could accuse players of “paying each other to take each other out.”
Ayodele responded to Hargrove via Twitter later Sunday night.
“OMG just heard about Hargrove on outside the line lmfao REALLY kid u that broke??” he wrote. “I’m the reason u missed a whole year?? … get real kid ur done I said NOTHING nobody on the team did I’m still trying to figure out this bounty what’s he talking bout?”
In another posting, Ayodele wrote: “Hey Hargrove if you need a job hit me up on my Facebook, Instagram, or my twitter lol I’m hiring right now as we speak … Next time you play football for 8 years put a Lil money up for a rainy day.. But as we can tell you did NOT.”
Ayodele did not play last year. He spent the 2011 season with the Minnesota Vikings.
