Alvin Gentry is no longer the coach of the struggling Phoenix Suns.

The team announced Friday that it “mutually agreed to part ways” with Gentry, who had held the job since 2009 after replacing the fired Terry Porter.

The Suns have the worst record in the Western Conference this season at 13-28, three years after the team reached the conference finals under Gentry. The franchise has undergone a transition since veteran guard Steve Nash left.

An interim coach will be named in the next 24-48 hours, the Suns announced.

Gentry, 58, leaves Phoenix with a 158-44 record in five years. He previously was the head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers (2000-03), Detroit Pistons (1997-2000) and Miami Heat (1995).
