Brian Kelly recently said Notre Dame was his dream job and that “leaving is not an option.”
Then the Irish were soundly defeated by Alabama in the BCS Championship Game on Monday night.
On Wednesday, Kelly interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles for their head coaching position, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
And according to NFL sources, the two parties will meet again, once Kelly returns from an out-of-the-country trip.
While preparing for the national title game, the 51-year-old Kelly was asked about leaving is dream job and making the jump to the NFL. He left the door open.
“For me to say I’ll never coach in the NFL — I have no idea,” Kelly said on Friday. “I’m not trying to be evasive. It’s the truth of the matter. It’s all about timing.”
Kelly is the third college coach the Eagles have interviewed. Oregon’s Chip Kelly and Penn State’s Bill O’Brien met with Eagles’ officials before deciding to stay at their respective schools.
