The firing of offensive coordinator Cam Cameron came as a surprise to quarterback Joe Flacco.
“I was definitely stunned,” Flacco said.
Flacco wasn’t alone in that sentiment, including Pro Bowl running back Ray Rice.
“This is something that I think is a wake-up call for everybody,” Rice said. “You never know when your day is going to be called. Nobody wants that to happen, but it’s a wake-up call for everybody around the building. The expectation is to win around here. We want to win.”
The Ravens rank 18th in total offense, ninth in scoring offense.
“I think as an offense, we have to look at ourselves and see what we can do to be better. Obviously, we weren’t good enough,” Flacco said. I think we’re working on becoming a very good offense around here and I think we all probably wish it would have happened a little bit quicker. But I think we’re still working toward that.”
Flacco denied having a rift with Cameron, which had been rumored throughout their five years of working together.
“Listen, Cam has done so much for my career,” Flacco said. “He brought me here and trusted to bring me here, first of all. He’s just helped me every year I’ve been here, so I’ll never forget that. He’s been great for me. Cam felt at peace and it was a good conversation, very natural. We did spend a lot of time together, and if that conversation was tough, I think that would have been a little bit crazy.”
“It’s our job to make Jim Caldwell the best coordinator in the league,” wide receiver Torrey Smith said. “Nothing has really changed. It’s just a different guy calling the plays.”
