Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Brandon Roy will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Monday, a team spokesman told the St. Paul Pioneer-Press.
Roy has experienced discomfort in the knee since sitting out the second half of the Timberwolves’ game against the Indiana Pacers on Nov. 9. He has missed the last four games and did not practice last week.
It is not known how long Roy will be out.
Roy, 27, retired in December 2011 because of a degenerative condition in his knees, but decided to make a comeback this season. He signed a two-year, $10 million free-agent contract.
Roy, a three-time All-Star, is averaging 5.8 points, 4.6 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 24.4 minutes in five games this season.
He played the first six years of his NBA career with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Roy has had six other operations on his knees going back to his high school playing career.
