Right-hander Joakim Soria became a free agent Wednesday after the Kansas City Royals declined his $7.5 million contract option for 2013.
The reliever missed all of the 2012 season after Tommy John elbow surgery.
Soria, 28, was one of the top closers in baseball from 2007 to 2011, posting 160 saves with a 2.40 ERA.
