San Francisco 49ers player notes for Nov 27th, 2018


Godwin Igwebuike – Noteworthy – Transaction
S Godwin Igwebuike was claimed on waivers by the 49ers from the Buccaneers Tuesday (Nov. 27). He had been placed on waivers Monday. Igwebuike (6-0, 212) spent the first 10 weeks of the season on Tampa Bay’s practice squad, before being elevated to the active roster and playing in one game. He originally signed with the Buccaneers as an undrafted rookie free agent on April 30. He was waived by Tampa Bay on Sept. 1 and signed to the team’s practice squad the following day. On Nov. 16, he was promoted to the active roster and appeared in one game prior to being waived.

James Onwualu – Noteworthy – Transaction
LB James Onwualu was signed by the 49ers from their practice squad Tuesday (Nov. 27). Onwualu (6-1, 235) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 1, 2017. He appeared in nine games and registered nine special teams tackles last season with the Chargers and was waived by the team on Aug. 26, 2018. He was signed to the 49ers practice squad on Nov. 19.

Jeff Wilson Jr. – Noteworthy – Transaction
RB Jeff Wilson Jr. was signed by the 49ers from their practice squad Saturday (Nov. 24). Wilson Jr. (6-0, 194) originally signed with the 49ers as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 1 out of the University of North Texas. He was waived by the team on Sept. 1 and signed to the practice squad the following day.

Jimmie Ward – Important – Injury – Transaction
DB Jimmie Ward (broken forearm) was placed on reserve/injured by the 49ers Tuesday (Nov. 27). While he would normally eligible to be designated for return and begin practicing after missing at least six weeks and playing in eight weeks, the first game he would be available would be the Super Bowl. Ward (5-11, 193) appeared in nine games (seven starts) this season and registered 23 tackles on defense while adding one tackle and one forced fumble on special teams.

Max McCaffrey – Noteworthy – Transaction
WR Max McCaffrey was signed by the 49ers to their practice squad Tuesday (Nov. 27). He had been waived with an injury settlement by the 49ers Aug. 29. McCaffrey (6-2, 200) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2016. He was waived by Oakland on Aug. 29 and signed to the Packers practice squad on Dec. 20. On Jan. 21, 2017, McCaffrey was promoted to the Packers active roster and was inactive for the NFC Championship Game against the Atlanta Falcons.

In 2017, he was waived by Green Bay on Sept. 2, and later signed to the New Orleans Saints practice squad on Sept. 4, 2017. On Sept. 12, he was signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars active roster where he appeared in five games and registered one reception for four yards prior to being waived by the team on Oct. 21. He was signed to the Packers practice squad on Oct. 24 and was signed to the 49ers active roster on Dec. 13 where he was inactive for the team’s final three games of the season.

Tyrell Adams – Noteworthy – Transaction
LB Tyrell Adams was signed by the 49ers to their practice squad Tuesday (Nov. 27). He had been waived from reserve/injured with an injury settlement by the Texans Oct. 24. Adams (6-2, 230) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 12, 2015. He was waived by the Seahawks on Sept. 5, 2015, and later spent parts of his rookie season on the Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs practice squads. After signing a reserve/future contract with the Chiefs on Jan. 18, 2016, he was later released from the team’s practice squad on Sept. 6. Adams was signed to the Oakland Raiders practice squad on Oct. 5 and was promoted to the Raiders active roster on Nov. 26, 2016 where he appeared in six regular-season games and one postseason contest. In 2017, he saw action in six games for Oakland and registered 15 tackles prior to being waived by the team on Oct. 16, 2017. He was then claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Bills on October 18.

This season, Adams signed with the Indianapolis Colts on Feb. 23. He was waived/injured by the team on Sept. 1 and later signed to the Houston Texans practice squad on Oct. 2. On Oct. 6, he was promoted to the Texans active roster where he went on to appear in three games before he was waived/injured.
