SEATTLE – Wide receiver Braylon Edwards is set to sign a one-year deal with the Seahawks, a league source told KJR 950’s Dave Softy Mahler.
Edwards wasn’t signed after a workout just before Seattle opened training camp last week, and then headed to South Florida for a tryout with the Dolphins. It appeared the Seahawks’ interest had passed when they signed another veteran, Antonio Bryant. But Seattle is aggressively seeking a replacement for injury-plagued Mike Williams, who was released earlier this month, and Bryant and Edwards are both coming off injuries.
Edwards is only 29, but was bothered by a knee injury and eventually released by the 49ers in the middle of last season. He caught just 15 passes in nine games with San Francisco. Bryant hasn’t played since 2009 due to knee issues of his own.
The Seahawks are looking for a consistent threat to start opposite Sidney Rice. They have an emerging slot receiver in Doug Baldwin and Golden Tate flashed potential the final month of last season, but the position is very young and inexperienced beyond that.
