The Jacksonville Jaguars fired offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett on Monday, one day after the team lost its seventh straight game.
Hackett was in his third season as the Jaguars’ offensive coordinator after replacing Greg Olsen. He also served in the same capacity with head coach Doug Marrone in 2013-14.
“We would like to thank Nathaniel for his hard work and dedication to the Jaguars organization, and we wish him and his family the best moving forward.” Marrone said in a statement. “These are always tough decisions, but as the head coach, I have to do what I think is best for this football team.”
After advancing the AFC Championship Game last season, the Jaguars won three of their first four games in 2018 before their current losing skid dropped them into the cellar of the AFC South.
The absence of running back Leonard Fournette to injury and quarterback Blake Bortles’ struggles have gone a long way in hindering Jacksonville’s offense. The Jaguars (3-8) rank 22nd in the NFL in total offense (346.5 yards per game) and just 28th in points (17.9).
Bortles completed just 12 of 23 passes for 127 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday’s 24-21 setback versus the Buffalo Bills (4-7). The contest marked the sixth time this season that he had been held under 200 yards passing.
