GAME BREAKDOWN
KEY MATCHUP: West Virginia’s explosive offense against Oklahoma defense. The Mountaineers, though considered a high-powered offense because of their thrilling passing attack spurred by quarterback Will Grier, have to take advantage of the Sooners’ huge Achilles’ heel, and might have to score on almost every possession to beat Oklahoma, which has a 18-game winning streak in true road games, the nation’s longest.
DRAFT SLANT
–WR David Sills V was in his first full season as a wideout last year and produced some prodigious offensive stats (60 catches, 980 yards and 18 touchdowns). He’s one of two West Virginia players (Grier is the other) named to the AP preseason All-American team and has been lethal this year with 53 catches for 765 yards and 13 touchdowns over the first 10 games. He’s a prototype slot receiver who can make the big catches over the middle and handle one-on-one hand-play with defensive backs.
ROSTER REPORT:
–S Dravon Askew-Henry made his team-leading 49th career start, second-most in program history.
–QB Will Grier finished with 364 passing yards, good for his school- record 18th career 300-yard passing game. He passed Geno Smith (2009-12), who finished with 17 career 300-yard passing games.
–RB Kennedy McKoy had with a career-high 148 rushing yards against Oklahoma State, his fourth career 100-yard rushing game. McKoy becomes the third Mountaineer to rush for 100 or more yards in a game this season, joining freshman Leddie Brown (twice) and junior Martell Pettaway.
