GAME BREAKDOWN

KEY MATCHUP: Stanford allowed a strong game from Washington tailback Myles Gaskin (28 carries for 148 yards and a touchdown). Gaskin was coming back from injury and rejuvenated the Huskies. The Cardinal’s key to rolling past the Beavers without much incident is stopping 1,000-yard tailback Jermar Jefferson, a freshman.

DRAFT SLANT

–WR J.J. Arcega-Whiteside has seen his NFL draft stock ascend considerably this year. According to NFLDraftScout.com, as of last week, Arcega-Whiteside could be a second-round pick. The 6-3, 225-pound senior has been a red zone favorite of Stanford, and before Saturday, was second in the nation with 11 TD catches. His knee injury, and its severity, looms large not only for the Cardinal but for Arcega-Whiteside’s future. “J.J.’s an All-American,” Cardinal coach David Shaw said. “He’s one of the best, if not the best, receiver in America. When a guy like that’s not on the field, you miss him.”
