Strategy And Personnel

GAME BREAKDOWN

KEY MATCHUP: If Kansas is to upset TCU, turnovers could be key. The Jayhawks lead the Big 12 with a turnover margin of plus-14, while the Horned Frogs rank last with a ratio of minus-10. Statistically, TCU has been solid defensively, a trademark under veteran coach Gary Patterson. It ranks first in the Big 12 defending the pass, which could prompt Kansas to design more rushes for RB Pooka Williams as long as the game is close. Capitalizing on turnovers, something that led to the dismissal of offensive coordinator Doug Meacham, is essential for the Jayhawks. TCU will be without starting QB Shawn Robinson (shoulder) and WR/KR KaVontae Turpin (suspension.)

DRAFT SLANT

–DT Daniel Wise is often an unsung contributor, though opponents are well aware of his presence. Wise commands attention in the middle of the trenches, allowing linebackers such as Joe Dineen and Bryce Torneden as well as S Mike Lee in run support, to cover considerable ground without being blocked. Credit Wise for allowing teammates to gamble at times, enabling Kansas to rank among the nation’s leaders with 21 takeaways.

ROSTER REPORT

–QB Peyton Bender went the distance in the loss at Texas Tech, but Kansas coach David Beaty said he and his staff will monitor practices before determining a starter for the TCU clash.

–S Mike Lee, who missed the Oct. 6 game against West Virginia with an injury, returned against Texas Tech but was ejected late in the first half after being called for targeting. Lee will not have to miss any of the TCU game.

–S Ricky Thomas, who made a splash during nonconference play but sat out the first three Big 12 games with an injury, returned at Texas Tech and was in on two tackles as a backup.

–DT Daniel Wise was slow to get up and helped off the field at Texas Tech but later returned. Wise was in on three tackles, including one for loss, and a quarterback hurry.
