Three-time batting champion Luis Arraez agreed to a $14 million salary and right-hander Dylan Cease agreed to $13.75 million for the 2025 season with the San Diego Padres, MLB.com reported on Thursday.
Right-hander Michael King and the Padres didn’t agree to terms before Thursday’s deadline for unsigned arbitration-eligible players and teams to exchange figures. Teams can still agree to deals with players prior to arbitration hearings.
According to reports, San Diego also agreed to one-year deals with right-handed reliever Jason Adam ($4.8 million), left-hander Adrian Morejon ($2 million) and catcher Luis Campusano ($1 million).
Arraez, 27, batted .314 last season while winning his third consecutive batting title. The three-time All-Star infielder was the first person to win three straight titles with three different teams — he won the American League crown in 2022 with the Minnesota Twins and the National League title with the Miami Marlins in 2023.
Arraez had 200 hits last season, his second straight year reaching the milestone. He also had four homers, 32 doubles and 46 RBIs in 150 games between the Padres (117) and Marlins (33).
San Diego acquired Arraez from the Marlins for four minor leaguers in early May.
Arraez batted .316 for Minnesota in 2022 and .354 for Miami in 2023.
Overall, Arraez has a .323 average with 28 homers and 247 RBIs in 686 career games over six seasons with the Twins (2019-22), Marlins (2023-24) and Padres.
Cease, 29, was a solid 14-11 with a 3.47 ERA in 33 starts in his first season with the Padres. He was acquired from the Chicago White Sox shortly before the start of the campaign.
Cease etched his name into franchise lore by no-hitting the Washington Nationals on July 25. It was just the second in Padres’ history. Joe Musgrove fired the first in 2021.
Cease struck out 214 batters, the fourth straight season in which he has topped 200. He finished fourth in National League Cy Young voting.
King, 29, was a breakout performer for the Padres after being acquired as part of the deal in which Juan Soto was traded to the New York Yankees.
King went 13-9 with a 2.95 ERA and a career-best 201 strikeouts in 30 starts plus one relief outing. His victory total was also a career best.
Adam, 33, went 3-0 with a 1.01 ERA in 27 relief appearances for the Padres after being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in late July. Overall, he went 7-2 with a 1.95 ERA in 74 appearances last season.
Morejon, 25, was 3-2 with a 2.83 ERA in 60 relief appearances. He struck out 71 in 63 2/3 innings.
Campusano, 26, batted .227 with eight homers and 40 RBIs in 91 games, but lost his starting job. He threw out just eight of 49 base stealers.
