Two weeks ago, a postseason bowl bid seemed unlikely for East Carolina. The Pirates were 3-4 on the season and had little room left for error. Now, they need just one more victory to earn bowl eligibility. Much of the credit goes to quarterback Katin Houser.
On Thursday, the redshirt sophomore who transferred from Michigan State had a career day against Florida Atlantic. He threw a 50-yard touchdown pass on the game’s second play and never looked back. For the game, he completed 17 of 22 passes for 343 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran for 52 yards and another score, averaging over 10 yards per carry, leading the Pirates to 581 yards total offense.
For his performance, Katin Houser has been recognized as winner of the Academy Sports Award, Player of the Week. A win over Tulsa on Saturday would make East Carolina bowl eligible.
