Kavontae Turpin – Noteworthy
Texas Christian wide receiver KaVontae Turpin was arrested for alleged assault with bodily harm of a family member, multiple media outlets reported on Monday. TCU head coach Gary Patterson has yet to make any statement about the situation involving Turpin. The Fort Worth Star Telegram reported that Turpin has been released from jail. While Patterson has not officially been on the record about this news, TCU’s athletic department released the following statement via spokeswoman Holly Ellman: “Texas Christian University is aware that one of its students was recently arrested for a reported domestic situation. The university takes these types of reports very seriously and is continuing to gather information to determine next steps. TCU expects its students to behave in an ethical manner, abide by campus policies and adhere to state and federal law. “The student also may face a charge of violating the University Code of Student Conduct, the results of which are independent and separate from any legal charges.” Turpin has 410 receiving yards and three touchdowns this season and has excelled on special teams. The senior leads the country by averaging almost 20 yards per punt return and has a touchdown. Turpin also had a 99-yard kickoff return against Oklahoma on Saturday. – The Sports Xchange
Shawn Robinson – Noteworthy
There will be no quarterback controversy for TCU: Starter Shawn Robinson is facing surgery that is expected to end his season. Two days after a midgame switch, coach Gary Patterson said Monday his sophomore quarterback will have surgery and that former Penn transfer Michael Collins will get his first start Saturday at Kansas. “We have no choice really, Shawn’s been trying to play through (an injury),” Patterson said during the Big 12 coaches weekly conference call. Patterson did not say what surgery Robinson would have, but the decision comes more than three weeks after the quarterback took a direct shot on his non-throwing left shoulder and had to be helped off the field in the closing seconds of a 17-14 win over Iowa State on Sept. 29. Robinson played all of the following game Oct. 11 against Texas Tech, but was replaced by Collins after the first three series Saturday in a 52-27 loss to Oklahoma. – AP College Football
