Kentucky quarterback Will Levis announced Wednesday that he won’t play in the Wildcats’ bowl game on New Year’s Eve.
Levis said during an interview last week that he would forgo his remaining eligibility and enter the 2023 NFL Draft. At the time, he was unsure if he would play in the bowl game, which hadn’t yet been announced.
“… After much thought, I have decided to forego my final college football game, look to that next step, and declare for the 2023 NFL Draft,” Levis posted Wednesday to social media.
Levis had one year of eligibility remaining. However, he’s a sure-fire first-round pick with expectations of being selected in the top five in next year’s draft.
The 6-foot-3 Levis threw for 2,406 yards and 19 touchdowns against 10 interceptions this past season. He battled turf toe and missed a game. He threw for 2,826 yards and 24 TDs in 2021.
Kentucky plays Iowa in the Music City Bowl on Dec. 31.
Kaiya Sheron figures to get the start at quarterback in place of Levis. Sheron started in place of an injured Levis against South Carolina on Oct. 8.
