Key Points:
- Texas lost four-star defensive lineman Dylan Berymon, marking his second decommitment in just 24 hours.
- Berymon, once a key part of Steve Sarkisian’s 2025 class, officially backed off his Texas pledge.
- Despite the setback, Texas still holds a top-10 recruiting class led by five-star quarterback Dia Bell.
Steve Sarkisian and the No. 11 Texas Longhorns are sitting at 7-2 on the season, and in a prime position to make the College Football Playoff for the third year in a row. The team’s success should not only be attributed to Sarkisian being able to revamp the program’s culture after the Tom Herman era, but is also a product of the team recruiting at an elite level.
According to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings, the Longhorns had the No. 1 overall class in 2025, No. 6 in 2024 and No. 3 in 2023. Despite being among the best in the game when it comes to recruiting, even the Longhorns are not immune to losing the occasional recruit or two. An occurrence that happened twice within 24 hours to the Longhorns on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Four-star defensive lineman Dylan Berymon, who had been committed to the Longhorns since June, took to social media to announce that he had backed off his pledge on Tuesday. Moments after uploading the post, Berymon took it down. With Texas fans a bit confused about the matter, the post’s deletion led many to believe he had changed his mind. A sentiment that didn’t last all too long, as it was confirmed on Wednesday by Rivals that he had officially decommitted from Texas.
To make matters more interesting, Inside Texas’ Justin Wells commented on the matter, writing “Second time in 24 hours.”
When a commenter asked him if Berymon had re-committed to Texas the night before, Wells revealed that Berymon was telling people he was still committed to Texas.
“He told us he was still committed, technically,” Wells said. “But we had sources saying otherwise. So we let it play out.”

Berymon is a Monroe, Louisiana native and chose the Longhorns over around 30 other programs. He ranked as the No. 97 player in the country, No. 13 defensive lineman in the country and as the No. 4 player in the state. According to 247Sports, Berymon took official visits to Purdue and Texas Tech.
Following his departure, the Longhorns have the No. 8 class in the country, headlined by five-star quarterback Dia Bell. Although it’s certainly a big blow to lose a top-100 recruit in the country, the Longhorns have four other defensive linemen remaining in the class headlined by No. 54 overall recruit Vodney Cleveland.
It’s unclear where Berymon will end up, but multiple Rivals’ recruiting insiders predicted back in May that he would end up at Purdue. In the modern era of college football recruiting, where NIL is of the utmost importance to some, it’s truly an unpredictable situation until pen is put to paper.
