Guardians re-sign C Austin Hedges to one-year deal

The Cleveland Guardians re-signed backup catcher Austin Hedges on Wednesday.

MLB Network reported it was a one-year deal for $4 million plus up to $500,000 more in performance bonuses.

Hedges, 33, was set to become a free agent after batting .161 with five homers and 10 RBIs in 68 games in 2025.

He is a career .185 hitter with 74 home runs and 248 RBIs in 820 games with four teams since his 2015 debut.

Although Bo Naylor has emerged as the No. 1 backstop in Cleveland, Hedges is regarded as a clubhouse leader.

The Guardians have been to the playoffs four times with Hedges on the roster (2020, 2022, 2024 and 2025).
