Week 5 – Diego Pavia

Player of the Week … Week 5, 2025 Season

You’ve heard sports commentators around the country declare that Vanderbilt football just isn’t Vanderbilt any more … and for the 2025 season so far, that’s exactly right.

The Commodores this week are undefeated, with a 5-0 record for the first time in 17 seasons and are ranked in the Top 20 in the national polls.

A primary reason for the success is Diego Pavia, the quarterback who transferred from New Mexico State for last season, bringing his running and passing talents with him to Nashville. He proved his value again on Saturday against Utah State.

For the game, Pavia completed 26 of 34 passes for 321 yards and five touchdowns. He also led the team in rushing with 79 yards on just nine carries, averaging over eight yards per rush and adding another score.

That’s 400 total yards, and responsibility for six touchdowns as the ‘Dores put up 55 points in the 20-point win over the Aggies.  For his performance, Diego Pavia has been named the winner of the Academy Sports + Outdoors Award, Player of the Week.

Next Saturday, Pavia will lead the Commodores into Tuscaloosa to face the Alabama Crimson Tide.
