Oregon player notes for Oct 17th, 2018

CJ Verdell – Noteworthy
RB CJ Verdell has officially been named the starting running back after rushing for more than 100 yards in each of his previous three games. The Cougars are solid in pass defense but have holes in their rush defense — holes that Verdell must expose. Having a good running game and getting that balance makes life easier for quarterback Justin Herbert and the play-action pass, a vital part of Oregon’s offense.

Penei Sewell – Important – Injury
LT Penei Sewell, a starter, is expected to be out about six weeks with an ankle injury suffered against Washington, coach Mario Cristobal said Tuesday. That puts the rest of the true freshman’s regular season in doubt. “Penei is a relentless competitor and I have no doubt he’ll return better than ever,” Cristobal said in a release.
