After dropping the first game of the series to Missouri, 7-2, South Carolina bounced back to win the next two games to capture the Battle of Columbia Series at Founders Park in Columbia, SC.
Sunday, in the rubber game of the series, the Gamecocks got strong pitching from the duo of Will Sanders and Brett Kerry in a 13-4 win over the Tigers. South Carolina pounded out 13 hits on the afternoon against five Missouri pitchers.
Sanders started on the mound for the Gamecocks and gave up a home run on the first pitch of the game, but he settled down to allow just four hits and two runs with six strikeouts and no walks in four-plus innings of work. Kerry earned the win out of the bullpen, striking out eight and allowing six hits and two runs with no walks in four innings of relief. The Carolina pitching staff did not allow a walk.
Brady Allen belted out three hits to pace the Gamecocks offense, while Josiah Sightler, Andrew Eyster and Colin Burgess each had two hits. Allen and Sightler scored three runs apiece in the win.
Allen had a big weekend for Carolina as he went 6-for-11 with six runs scored, a pair of doubles and six RBIs in the series.
The Gamecocks scored six runs in the sixth, and Allen belted a three-run home run in an 11-1 win over the Tigers on Saturday.
Missouri scored three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings as the Tigers defeated the South Carolina, 7-2, on Friday night in the opener of the three-game SEC series.
Carolina improved to 21-9 overall and 8-4 in the SEC. Missouri is 11-19 overall, and 4-8 SEC play. The Gamecocks are a game behind both Tennessee and Vanderbilt in the SEC East standings and have won their last three SEC series.
The Gamecocks host Charleston Southern on Tuesday night, then travel to Baton Rouge for a Thursday-Saturday series against LSU.
