Standout wide receiver Rondale Moore will miss Saturday’s season opener for Purdue.

The school gave no reason for Moore’s absence in its Friday announcement.

The Boilermakers host Iowa on Saturday afternoon and also will be without head coach Jeff Brohm, who tested positive for COVID-19.

Moore, in his third season, initially chose to opt out amid the coronavirus pandemic but decided to return when the Big Ten reversed course and elected to play a fall football season.

The 5-foot-9 Moore had an electric freshman season in 2018, becoming the first true freshman consensus All-American in Big Ten history. In 13 games, he caught 114 passes for 1,258 yards, rushed 21 times for 213 yards, and also returned 33 kickoffs for 662 yards and 12 punts for 82 yards. He scored 14 touchdowns.

His 2,215 all-purpose yards set a school record for most in a season.

Last season, he was limited to four games after suffering a season-ending knee injury. He caught 29 passes for 387 yards and two scores, adding 151 yards on nine kickoff returns.
