PLAYERS TO WATCH
–RB Joshua Kelley rushed for more than 100 yards for a third consecutive game, accruing 157 and three touchdowns in the win at Cal.
–TE Caleb Wilson has established himself as QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s primary receiving target. Wilson caught a team-high five passes for 82 yards, marking his second consecutive game leading the Bruins in receiving yards.
–DE/LB Keisean Lucier-South began settling in as UCLA’s most productive pass-rusher once Pac-12 play began. He made three tackles for loss Sept. 28 at Colorado, and 3.5 in last week’s win at Cal. He also forced a fumble, picked off a pass, and scored on a fumble return, earning Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honors. Arizona’s quarterback protection has been suspect at times. Lucier-South is UCLA’s most effective option to exploit that possible weakness.
–LB Krys Barnes played his second consecutive outstanding game, racking up eight tackles, including 2.5 for loss, last week vs. Cal. A week earlier, he had nine tackles — with three for loss — against Washington. Barnes’ improved production has addressed one of the Bruins’ most glaring issues heading into the season, as UCLA was replacing the all-around production of leader Kenny Young, who graduated after 2017.
SERIES HISTORY: UCLA leads the series with Arizona, 24-16-2. Arizona’s 47-30 win last season snapped a five-game Bruins’ winning streak from 2012 through 2016 — which followed a five-game Arizona streak from 2007 through 2011.
QUOTE TO NOTE: “It was important for us, because every game we’ve been in this year was really close. We had to fix the little problems, like getting penalties and not tackling, and today’s game, we did our job.” — DE/LB Keisean Lucier-South, on UCLA getting its first win.
