–Safety Mike Adams has 15 career interceptions. Those include five multi-interception games after his two pickoffs against the New York Giants. Adams is in his 15th season in the NFL.
“On both plays, I just disguised,” Adams said of the latest interceptions. “I was down in the box and then I just popped out both times. I guess Eli (Manning) thought it was one coverage when we were playing another and he ended up throwing it right to me. So I got blessed on both plays.”
It’s consecutive games with a Carolina player with two interceptions. In the previous game, it was rookie cornerback Donte Jackson.
–Safety Eric Reid started in his first game for the Panthers after he was signed as a free agent during the team’s open week.
Reid, whose protests with former San Francisco 49ers teammate Colin Kaepernick brought attention to him in the past, took a knee during the national anthem Sunday – the only player on either team to do so – when the Panthers met the New York Giants.
Reid said he informed head coach Ron Rivera that he would do so as a courtesy but didn’t feel he “needs anybody’s approval” to express himself in this manner.
“I feel our country is moving backwards,” Reid said after the game, referring to what he considers as unjust killings of black people. “The only way to change that is to talk about it.”
–Hard to believe that running back Christian McCaffrey didn’t score a touchdown this season until the fourth quarter of the fourth game.
McCaffrey’s production at times has been off the charts, but until he scooted in after making a catch for what resulted in an 18-yard play, he hadn’t made it to the end zone.
“It’s hard for a lot of people to label him,” quarterback Cam Newton said. “He’s obviously not just a receiving back, he’s a total running back. He shows signs that this is not a fluke.”
McCaffrey was one of three Carolina players posting his first touchdown of the season in the fourth game. The Panthers have 10 players with at least one touchdown this season.
BY THE NUMBERS: 13.2 points – That’s the winning margin for Carolina in its six all-time victories against the Redskins. In the Panthers’ losses to Washington, the average margin has been 4.6 points.
