Cal graduate transfer running back Tre Watson announced via Twitter on Sunday his commitment to Texas.
Watson was the Golden Bears starting tailback and on the Doak Walker Award Watch list last season before tearing his ACL in Week 2. Watson scored 13 touchdowns in 37 games for Cal. He compiled 1,390 rushing yards, 657 kick return yards and 379 receiving yards.
“I left Cal to experience bigger football,” Watson told ESPN in a text. “I couldn’t turn down this opportunity to play on one of the biggest stages in college football.”
His decision to join the Longhorns should be a big boost for coach Tom Herman’s offense, which did not have a running back top 400 yards last season.
LSU and Texas Tech also were vying for Watson’s services.
