Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.
The Eagles announced Sirianni experienced symptoms before being placed in the COVID-19 protocol. The news comes one day after the first-year coach guided the Eagles to a 27-17 victory over the Washington Football Team.
Sirianni, 40, will conduct his responsibilities remotely and hopes to return for Sunday’s home game against the New York Giants. Should he be unable to do so, passing-game coordinator Kevin Patullo is expected to serve as the interim coach for the Eagles (7-7) in their game versus the Giants (4-10).
“I wasn’t feeling great this morning when I woke up, and just got tested,” Sirianni said. “Obviously we are where we are right now. I’m feeling OK, I’m feeling a little better right now, which is good. The rest of the week I’ll be in every meeting — obviously virtually. … Just business as usual.”
Sirianni was the second NFL coach to test positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, joining Robert Saleh of the New York Jets.
