Efe Obada – Noteworthy
DE Efe Obada has gained quite a bit of attention for his background since the last game, when he recorded an interception, a sack, a deflected pass and two quarterback hurries in just 19 snaps of his NFL debut against the Cincinnati Bengals. That landed him the NFC Defensive Player of the Week honor. Obada became the first player from the NFL International Pathway Program to make an active roster.
Michael Palardy – Noteworthy – Transaction
P Michael Palardy has been so solid that he was granted a three-year contract extension. He would have been a free agent at the end of the season. This season, Palardy has a net average of 42.7 yards per attempt, a rate that’s on track to break his franchise record from last season.
Michael Palardy – Important – Transaction
P Michael Palardy signed a three-year contract extension with the Panthers through the 2021 season. Without the extension, Palardy would have become a restricted free agent following the 2018 season. Palardy set a franchise record in 2017 with his 42.4-yard net punting average to go along with his 46.0 gross punting average. Palardy tied for third in the NFL for fewest touchbacks (4) among qualified punters, while landing 25 punts inside the 20. This season, Palardy has raised his net average to 42.7, while eight of his 14 punts have pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line with only one touchback. Palardy was an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee in 2014, signing with seven different teams before becoming the Panthers punter in the 2016 season and earning his first NFL game action in place of an injured Andy Lee. Palardy won the Panthers punter job in training camp in 2017 prior to his franchise-best season.
