Angels recall C Matt Thaiss, option RHP Janson Junk

The Los Angeles Angels recalled catcher Matt Thaiss on Thursday, one day after right-hander Janson Junk was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Thaiss, 26, has played just two games for the Angels this season and 10 over the past two seasons. In 63 career games over three seasons, he is batting .201 with nine home runs and 24 RBIs. In 101 games at Salt Lake this season, he was batting .280 with 17 home runs and 69 RBIs.

Junk, 25, made four starts with the Angels, going 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA after making his major league debut Sept. 5. He was acquired in the trade-deadline deal that sent left-hander Andrew Heaney to the New York Yankees.
