Miami (Fla.) junior safety Jamal Carter was suspended for violating team rules and sent home from the Sun Bowl.

The team’s fifth-leading tackler, Carter played in 12 games and was recovering from a hamstring injury.

Miami is playing for interim coach Larry Scott following the dismissal of Al Golden. Mark Richt was hired as head coach earlier this month.
