Adrian Colbert – Noteworthy – Injury
FS Adrian Colbert (strained hip) was held out of practice Wednesday after playing only 25 snaps at Kansas City. He is questionable for the Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
C.J. Beathard – Noteworthy
QB C.J. Beathard will be the starting quarterback moving forward following the injury to QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Beathard started five games as a rookie last season, going 1-4, but did lead the club to their first win of the season, 31-21 over the New York Giants in Week 10.
Christian DiLauro – Noteworthy – Transaction
OT Christian DiLauro was signed to the 49ers’ practice squad Wednesday. He had begun the season on the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad after having gone undrafted out of Illinois.
Dexter McCoil – Noteworthy – Transaction
DB Dexter McCoil was signed to the 49ers’ practice squad Wednesday. The third-year pro got into eight games for the 49ers last season, making one tackle.
Fred Warner – Noteworthy
MLB Fred Warner retained his starting position in the middle of the San Francisco defense even with OLB Reuben Foster and OLB Malcolm Smith making their 2018 debuts at Kansas City. The rookie led the team with 11 tackles.
George Kittle – Noteworthy
TE George Kittle had a 7-yard touchdown reception nullified by an offensive pass interference penalty on FB Kyle Juszczyk in the loss at Kansas City. Kittle caught five passes for 79 yards, giving him 191 yards for the season, the sixth-most among NFL tight ends.
Jaquiski Tartt – Noteworthy – Injury
SS Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder stinger) was a non-participant at practice Wednesday after missing the Kansas City game in Week 3. He is questionable at best for the Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Jimmie Ward – Noteworthy
DB/FS Jimmie Ward replaced DB Ahkello Witherspoon as the starting right cornerback for the Kansas City game. He likely will be move to left corner to replace DB Richard Sherman in the Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, with Witherspoon regaining his spot at right corner.
Jimmy Garoppolo – Noteworthy – Injury
QB Jimmy Garoppolo (torn left ACL) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday. He is out for the season. Garoppolo was injured in the fourth quarter at Kansas City in the Week 3 loss. He is expected to have surgery in early October and be ready for training camp next season.
Joshua Garnett – Noteworthy – Injury
-G Joshua Garnett (dislocated toe) remained sidelined at practice Wednesday and is unlikely to return for the Week 4 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers. Garnett was injured in the season opener and has missed the last two games.
Malcolm Smith – Noteworthy
OLB Malcolm Smith (strained hamstring) made his 2018 debut as the strongside linebacker at Kansas City and was eased back into the action, playing just 34 of the team’s 76 defensive snaps. Smith showed no effects of the injury that kept him out of the club’s first two games.
Marquise Goodwin – Noteworthy – Injury
WR Marquise Goodwin (strained quad) was limited at practice Wednesday as the club takes a cautious approach to the injury that forced him to miss the Week 2 game against Detroit. Goodwin hauled in his first touchdown pass of the season, an 11-yard hook-up with QB Jimmy Garoppolo, in the Week 3 loss at Kansas City. He was targeted just four times, catching three for 30 yards.
Matt Breida – Important – Injury
RB Matt Breida (hyperextended knee) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday as the club attempted to ease him into the week leading into Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Breida avoided a serious injury at Kansas City and was able to return to the contest, finishing as the game’s leading rusher with 90 yards. He is tied with Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott for the most rushing yards in the NFL with 274.
Mike Person – Noteworthy – Injury
G Michael Person (sprained knee) was unable to practice Wednesday as the 49ers began preparations for their Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Person had to leave the Kansas City game in Week 3 for seven snaps, but still managed to be on the field for 61 offensive plays. The 49ers hope to get him back at practice by week’s end.
Nick Mullens – Noteworthy – Transaction
QB Nick Mullens was promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster Wednesday. The second-year pro has never thrown an NFL pass and will serve as QB C.J. Beathard’s backup.
Reuben Foster – Noteworthy
OLB Reuben Foster returned from a two-game suspension and started at weakside linebacker against Kansas City. Foster left the field for one play when he got the wind knocked out of him, but returned to play 75 of the 76 defensive snaps.
Richard Sherman – Important – Injury
DB Richard Sherman (strained left calf) did not practice Wednesday. He had to leave the Week 3 game against Kansas City in the second quarter after suffering the injury. He is expected to miss at least two games.
Robbie Gould – Noteworthy
PK Robbie Gould extended his franchise record for consecutive field goals made to 31 with a pair against Kansas City. He has made at least one field goal in 23 straight games.
Ryan Delaire – Noteworthy – Transaction
DE Ryan Delaire was signed to the 49ers’ practice squad Wednesday. The undrafted player in 2015 has 15 games of NFL experience with the Carolina Panthers.
