Angels recall INF Luis Rengifo from Triple-A Salt Lake

The Los Angeles Angels bolstered their infield depth Thursday, recalling Luis Rengifo after a productive stint at Triple-A Salt Lake.

Rengifo fills the roster vacancy created Wednesday when right-hander Aaron Slegers was optioned to Salt Lake.

Rengifo, 24, was sent down after just four games and a 1-for-14 start to the season. He appeared to find his game at Salt Lake, batting .331 over 30 games with five home runs and 19 RBIs. He has just eight home runs in 145 career major league games.

Slegers, 28, was 2-2 with a 6.43 ERA in 24 relief appearances with the Angels this season. In five seasons with the Minnesota Twins (2017-18), Tampa Bay Rays (2019-20) and Angels, he is 3-4 with a 5.13 ERA in 44 appearances (six starts).
