PLAYERS TO WATCH
–QB TaQuon Marshall leads the team with 340 yards rushing and five touchdowns and has thrown for 382 yards. Marshall has struggled with making the right decision on whether to pitch the ball or keep it, and last week there were eight fumbles under his watch. The sporadic offensive line has made things difficult for Marshall to grow in his second season.
–FB Jerry Howard moved ahead of Jordan Mason and into the starting lineup. Howard got the nod over the redshirt freshman because of his blocking skills and better grasp of the offense. Both will play, essentially sharing the role.
–QB Tobias Oliver got to play against Clemson and ran nine times for 34 yards and completed his first two career passes, one of them for a touchdown. Coach Paul Johnson said: “He made some good individual plays. He had a hard time getting the right play against the right defense, a hard time kicking it out when he was supposed to. But the more he plays, the more he’ll calm down.”
–FS Malik Rivera intercepted his second pass with the Yellow Jackets, giving him a pick in back-to-back games. The graduate transfer only had one in his career at Wofford. He continues to be a consistent, steady force in the young secondary.
SERIES HISTORY: First meeting.
QUOTE TO NOTE: “I can promise you we’re going to get better, fundamentally, at quarterback. I promise you that. … I think a lot of it is mental … so that means we have to do things right.” — Coach Paul Johnson
