Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson was removed from Sunday night’s game against the host Los Angeles Angels in the first inning after experiencing left hamstring tightness, the White Sox announced. The team said in a tweet that his status is day-to-day.
Anderson, who led the majors in 2019 with a .335 batting average and led the American League with 45 runs scored a season ago, was hurt while running out an infield grounder in the top of the first.
When the White Sox took the field in the bottom of the inning, Leury Garcia went to shortstop.
Starting his sixth season in the majors, all with the White Sox, Anderson, Chicago’s leadoff hitter, has a career .280 batting average and a .308 on-base percentage.
Counting Sunday’s at-bat, Anderson is 3-for-15 with a home run this season.
