NEW YORK — The first official trade on draft night Thursday was a three-team deal involving the Atlanta Hawks, Washington Wizards and New York Knicks.
The first part of the trade involved the Hawks sending the draft rights to Kansas forward Kelly Oubre Jr. to the Wizards for the rights to Notre Dame guard Jerian Grant and two future second-round picks.
After Atlanta obtained Grant, the Hawks flipped him to New York for guard Tim Hardaway Jr.
Oubre was picked with the selection the Hawks obtained in a pick swap with the Brooklyn Nets in the 2012 trade for forward Joe Johnson. In his only season with the Jayhawks, Oubre averaged 9.3 points and five rebounds.
Grant, a four-year starter for the Fighting Irish, averaged 14.8 points and 5.8 assists in 119 college games. The son of former NBA forward Harvey Grant and the older brother of Philadelphia forward Jerami Grant, he helped lead Notre Dame to the Elite Eight before it lost to Kentucky in the NCAA tourney.
Hardaway was New York’s first-round pick two years ago after leading Michigan to the championship game. He was an all-rookie selection but struggled in his second year, averaging 11.5 points and shooting 38.9 percent in 70 games last season.
