Former Notre Dame offensive lineman Matt Hegarty will spend his final college season at Oregon as a graduate transfer.
Hegarty announced in March that he was leaving Notre Dame. He also visited Florida State before deciding on the Ducks.
Last fall, Hegarty started 11 games at guard or center for the Fighting Irish. At Oregon, he has an immediate chance for playing time at center after Hroniss Grasu was drafted by the Chicago Bears earlier this month.
The 6-foot-5, 295-pound Hegarty suffered a stroke in 2012 after playing in nine games for Notre Dame and had heart surgery. The next season, he returned to play in 12 games.
Hegarty joins former Eastern Washington quarterback Vernon Adams as a graduate transfer at Oregon for next season. Adams is hoping to replace departed Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota as the Ducks’ starter.
