Bills’ McDermott: WR Brown will not play vs. Broncos

Buffalo Bills wide receiver John Brown will not return to the field for Saturday’s road game against the Denver Broncos.

Bills coach Sean McDermott made the announcement Thursday on WGR 550 in Buffalo.

Brown, 30, was designated to return from injured reserve earlier this week.

The speedy wideout, who had been sidelined by a high-ankle sprain, has reeled in 29 receptions for 386 yards and two touchdowns in eight games this season. His production is down from last season, when he had 72 catches for 1,060 yards and six touchdowns.

Stefon Diggs, who leads the NFL in catches (100), will join Cole Beasley and Gabriel Davis in serving as Josh Allen’s key targets for the Bills (10-3) in their game against the Broncos (5-8).

McDermott also noted that safety Jaquan Johnson will sit out his second straight game on Saturday. Johnson, 25, is nursing an ankle injury.
